Malcolm Levin – Power Shield

Power Shield is a power protection company based in Perth, Western Australia, and specialising in the development, manufacture, installation and servicing of Uninterrupted Power Systems (UPS Supply) and power filtration products for the Australian market.

Formed in 2000, the business has grown considerably and now has eight employees, with a number of prominent companies on its client list.

The company sought help from Business Foundations after hearing about Enterprise Connect, and decided to take advantage of the opportunity to assess its operations and identify areas for improvement.

Business Foundations Business Advisor Terry Hicks undertook a review of the business, and was able to identify a number of issues to be addressed.

The company’s computer system had not grown with the business, and was no longer adequate for the size and scale of the operation, and there were no formal business or marketing plans in place.

Areas such as inventory management and external installation and service functions were also identified as potentially ripe for improvement, while the implementation of an organisation chart and succession plan was suggested to enable the business owner to concentrate more time and effort on strategic planning.

“Overall, we found the review process to be very good, and very thought-provoking,” said Power Shield owner Malcolm Levin.

“We have already moved on a number of the recommendations arising from the report, and we’re continuing to look at what we can do to improve our business.”

The company has begun work on more effective planning in terms of its layout and working space, and has implemented and begun trialling a customer relationship management software package.

“Terry has been a pleasure to deal with – he’s been non-intrusive while coming up with some real options and ideas for improvement, and above all has given us the opportunity to work on the business rather than in it.”
